If you play as the Japanese, build these in groups of three. The Tamato heading towards your base requires a massive amount of planes and ships to destroy but muliple Tamatos, require dozens of squadrons and ships. Its greatest weakness is: Torpedoes, submarines, bombers of any kind, battleships and rarely, the Tiny Tim. But in multiplayer the Super Tamato class is much more common because its guns are even more powerful and its armor is too. The Tamato however is outmatched by the Montanna class battleship as it is the American counter to it. it also posseses guns of equal power, but its armor is slightly weaker, however it is much faster. The Tamato guns and armor are only rivaled by the Iowa class battleship.

It has to take on two South Dakota Class Battleships and an Iowa, but is a match. If you do not unlock it, it is avaliable in the Invasion of Hawaii mission. It is recomended that you use it in the campaign whenever you can. The Tamato class Battleship can be unlocked in the Invasion of Midway by destroying the fuel tanks near the air field. It has outstanding AA guns being able to defeat several squadrons of bombers at a time. It has three primary turrets each with 18 in. At almost 72 000 tons, it can outmach any battleship in a 1v1 and even the weaker ships, in a 1v2. It has the heaviest armor, guns, and intimadation factors. The Tamato Class battleship is the largest battleship in the Japanese Navy. This is the Tamato as it appears in the Battlestations Pacific unit dossier.
